Where Have All The Popeyes’ Gone?
June 8, 2008
I tasted the best chicken and biscuit (which I think is more of a French toast) on my 22nd birthday in Robinson’s Metro East. Yes, Popeye’s Chicken. It was too late for me to realize that there’s a chicken fast food that is WAY better than KFC. Had my then-boyfriend not been a total dork, I would have bought a dozen of those mouth-watering biscuits and some chicken. But I thought, that time, that I can just safely go to a mall in Manila and find Popeye’s. I was wrong.
Come 2007, I searched for a branch on each mall I’ve been to but all to no avail. Popeye’s Chicken closed. I asked people to look for branches but they all said they couldn’t find any. I messaged my friend who works in Robinson’s Metro East and he said the branch closed. It was devastating. I had mad cravings for Popeye’s biscuits in summer of 2007.
I learned to ride the bus in my fourth year in college, which gave me easier access to Manila. I had to see it to believe it. There wasn’t any Popeye’s branch in the malls I have been to. What now, was I only able to taste those biscuits and chicken once in my lifetime? Not unless, of course, I go to America.
But why did Popeye’s close in the Philippines? I read several forums on the net that says Popeye’s is better than KFC. I agree! But how come they let every Popeye’s branch close in the country?
It’s really ironic that one of the most popular branches of Popeye’s was in SM South Mall. I am a frequent there now. But it was closed. It’s gone now.
Isn’t it obvious that my mad cravings are coming back? It’s cruelty. It’s an irony. Popeye’s Chicken… gone.

there’s one in greenbelt 1, sa baba lang. We used to eat there when we were working in Makati… UMM but I don’t know girl, chicken was big and cheap but it’s too salty and tastes and feels like chicken flavored rubber bands.

Pero sabi ni Ninyo sarado na daw, at ginawa nang Tokyo Tokyo. Has the company really pulled out all Popeye’s? Oh noes.
I LOVE their chicken to death. May kakaiba sa texture and flavor eh. And I love the biscuit and the cajun… Everything. Damn! I am literally drooling right now.

i totally agree with you and i felt the same way when i caouldn’t see any Popeyes branches in any maall that I went to.
I friggin love their biscuits and the chicken itself, let me also say that their price was affordable. I was a frequent customer of one of their brancehs in SM Bicutan and I remember going there every weekend before I return to eLBi. I always had to endure the long lines before I get to eat and mak sure that I order a to go box as well. Its the first time I enjoyed bringing a to go box because it really looks nice and you would want to dig in even before you got home.
Sad to say that Popeyes is nowhere to be found.
*sigh*

So I think we all have to go to, let’s say, America just to have another delightful Popeye’s meal! Buti ka pa, you were a frequent, I came to discover Popeye’s shortly before it vanished in malls. So this is an unfinished business for me. We all love Popeye’s and we all want it back!! Hehehe.

It’s not as good but you can try Church’s Chicken. Actually para siyang Texas Chicken — big and cheap. Meron sa Metropolis at SM Mall of Asia.

We both feel the same way.
I actually had the chance to taste the mouth watering biscuit when I was in America, and I’m glad na meron sa dito sa Manila nun sa pagkakaalam ko nung umuwi ako. Pero nung pumunta na ako sa mga malls, grabee, namiss ko kasi ala ng popeyes!
Ngayon nagke-crave ako sa biscuits nila, yun talaga fave ko. Sana mag open sila kahit isang branch sa MOA. Haha
